Bushwhacking: Katanai Rock

Katanai Rock is a rocky outcropping less than an hour from Portland that gets very little foot traffic. In fact, in early summer of 2013, we were only the 4th entry in the summit log since 2008. The scarce crowd probably relates to the fact that it is a bushwhack and that there is very little published information on the scramble. The  route to the summit involves 2 rappels. There is a goat trail that avoids the rappels, however, this is most easily found for the descent. The views at the top are airy and beautiful and you truly have the place to yourself.
