Gearing up for a couple new projects of various sorts and sifting through photos of projects past. There is one in particular that is ongoing, easy, and can take you to spectacular places-- the diatom collection project. Basically, you collect water samples, in a specified manner, from somewhat remote alpine lakes, record some data, and send them into a researcher. The scientist, Dr. Bahls, studies the diatoms within these water samples and will even report back to you if new species were identified or if they just contained old friends. Anyway, below are a couple of lakes and then diatoms that were within them. For this and similar projects, click here. Science!
